A lawyer planned to test Jesus. He asked Jesus what he should do to have eternal life.

Jesus answered by asking him what the law said about the matter. The lawyer replied by quoting "Love for God and neighbour".

Jesus told him that his answer was correct but the lawyer was still not satisfied. He asked, "Who is my neighbour?".

In response, Jesus told the parable:

Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)

1. A man was travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho when he fell into the hands of robbers
2. They stripped him of his clothes; beat him, leaving him half-dead
3. A priest and later a Levite who travelled by the road saw the man in great wounds, but passed by without helping
4. Instead, a Samaritan came and saw the wounded man and had compassion on him
5. He dressed the wounds and took him to an inn and gave money for his upkeep
6. Jesus then asked the lawyer, "Which of these three proved a neighbour to the man who fell among the robbers?"
7. The lawyer answered thus, "The one who showed mercy on him"
8. Jesus told him to go and do likewise
9. The story indicates that the priest and the Levite were officials of the temple
10. Samaritans were hated by the Jews because they were regarded as half-breed and religiously unclean
11. They failed to offer help because of fear of ritual defilement

How marriage ceremony is performed in Islam

1. In Islam, young boys and girls are not supposed to have any kind of relationship before marriage
2. The selection of marriage partner is generally made by the parents - the man or the woman's family may initiate a proposal, but customarily, it is the man who does the asking
3. Individuals may also make their own choices, but would need the approval of parents and family members
4. Muslims choose their partners from amongst people with the Islamic faith
5. A (Wali) matrimonial guardian must be present as the legal representatives of the bride
