Dagomba traditional story of creation

1. To the Dagomba, the Supreme Being (Nawuni) is the creator of the heavens and the earth and all the living things in it
2. The Dagomba believe that Nawuni is Omnipotent,Omniscient and Omnipresent, and has no partner
3. They believe Nawuni took six days to create the world and all creatures
4. The things created by Nawuni include: human beings, the sky, animals, vegetation,water bodies, etc.
5. Apart from human beings, Nawuni created spirit forces and lesser gods (bola) as his messengers
6. The lesser gods were created to act as intermediaries between Him and human beings
7. After six days of creation, Nawuni rested on the seventh day
8. Nawuni gave laws and principles to humankind to avoid sin
9. Nawuni is celebrated by the Dagomba especially during the New Yam season
10. During the season, the Dagomba express their thanks to Nawuni for bumper harvest and also recognise Him as the creator of the heavens and earth

Attributes of God according to the Akan

1. God is Omnipotent i.e. Almighty, All-powerful
2. God is Omnipresent i.e. God is ever present everywhere
3. God is Omniscient i.e. All-knowing
4. God is Sovereign i.e. (Otumfour)
5. God is immortal - he is always there and endures forever
6. God is creator of all things. The Akan call Him ɔboadeɛ
7. God is merciful and caring
8. God is love
9. Gye-Nyame - Except God
10. Nyame - The one who gives satisfaction
11. Tweredeapon - Dependable
12. God is Holy

a)

God's covenant with Abraham

1. At the age of 75, God asked Abramto leave his country and family for the land of Canaan.
2. Abram was promised many descendants who would become a great nation.
3. God will bless Abram and promised to make him famous.
4. God told Abram He will bless those who bless him and curse those who curse him.
5. Abram built an altar and worshipped God.
6. God promised Abram of His divine protection and a great deal of rewards.
7. Abram however became worried because he did not have a child of his own.
8. Then God promised to give Abram a child.
9. God asked Abram to perform a sacrifice as a sign that the promise would be fulfilled.
10. Abram had a dream which revealed that his descendants would be strangers in a foreign land and forced into slavery for 400 years after which they will have their freedom.
11. Abram was promised long life.
12. God told Abram to be obedient to Him and lead a blameless life.
13. God further promised Abram that He would make him fruitful and great i.e. Abram would be the father of multitude of nations.
14. God changed Abram's name to Abraham.
15. God sent angels to Abraham's wife to inform her she would give birrth to a son in her old age.
16. The covenant God had with Abraham was extended to all his descendants.
17. Abraham and his descendants were instructed to institute circumcision for every male child and new born on the 8^th day.
18. The Lord revealed Himself to Abram again at the age of ninety-nine (99) and declared that He was the almighty God.

3. God has the power to decide who he chooses to fulfil his plans
4. God is gracious - He provides for our needs
5. God is ready to fulfil all His promises to mankind

7. God can change a person's personality and situations
8. Obedience to God attracts blessings
9. We have patience and wait on God to solve our problems
10. Faith and trust are necessary for our interactions with God

How Christians celebrate Easter

1. Easter is the feast that marks the death and resurrection of Jesus from the dead
2. Easter festivities comprise Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday (All these days are full of activities)
3. Palm Sunday is celebrated to symbolise the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem with his disciples to celebrate the Passover feast
4. Christians go to worship with palm branches
5. They parade through the major streets singing Hosanna songs with drumming and dancing
6. Good Friday marks the day Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross of Calvary. Christians worship in the morning and evenings wearing morning cloth (black,red and black and white) to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus
7. They symbolically/dramatically mourn the death of Christ and ask for forgiveness of their sins
8. Some churches singing in mourning songs and hymns
9. Some churches celebrate Good Friday at conventions. All these convention meetings are held in the morning and evenings
10. Christians make joyful noise on Sunday that Jesus has risen
11. They wear colourful clothes e.g. white cloth
12. During the church services, on Sunday stories of the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus are told and special prayers and songs are offered
13. The celebration continues at home after church. Assorted dishes and drinks are served and shared with family members and friends
14. On Easter Monday, churches organise picnics for members and this is a time for merry-making
15. Christians use the occasion to make new friends and to demonstrate Jesus' teachings on brotherly love
