AngloGold Ashanti Supports KNUST-Obuasi Campus With Six Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis

AngloGold Ashanti Ghana (AGAG) has supported Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)-Obuasi campus with an amount of Six Hundred Thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 600,000.00). The donation which was made on Thursday the 3rd December, 2020 is aimed at supporting the University to carry out expansion and renovation works on some existing structures to accommodate the expected intake of fresh students for 2020/2021 academic year.


Presenting the cheque, the Managing Director of AGAG, Mr. Eric Asubonteng, reiterated the commitment of AngloGold Ashanti Ghana towards education which he said is featured prominently in the Social Management Plan of AGAG. He stressed that Management of AGAG is aware of the KNUST’s plans to increase the enrolment of the campus this year and to help grow the University to the standard expected.


He commended the University Authorities for passionately collaborating with the AGAG to bring to fruition the establishment of KNUST-Obuasi satellite campus.


“We will continue to support in any way we can, and we look forward to a better partnership with KNUST” said Mr. Asubonteng.


Receiving the cheque, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo, thanked the AGAG for their continuous support to the University since the establishment of the Obuasi satellite campus in 2019.


He commended the Management of AGAG for their Ambitious educational vision and noted that welcoming KNUST into Obuasi to nurture and mentor students is a partnership which will benefit many Ghanaians beyond Obuasi.


The Obuasi Campus came up on January 22, 2019, when President Akufo-Addo launched the Obuasi Mine Redevelopment Project, in Obuasi. The University thus admitted the first batch of 342 students in September, 2019. The campus runs the following courses; BSc. Electrical/Electronic Engineering, BSc. Civil Engineering, BSc. Mechanical Engineering, BSc. Materials Engineering, BSc. Metallurgical Engineering, BSc. Geological Engineering, BSc. Geomatics Engineering BSc. Environmental Science and BSc. Business Administration with options in (Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business Information Technology). There are plans to introduce health related programmes such as Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery, Medical Imagery and Laboratory Technology in the 2020/2021 academic year.
