Many a time you may wonder why your ward or fellow mate who is smart gets poor grade. There are a variety of reasons that smart kids earn poor grades.
1. Boredom
It could be that the student lack self discipline to the coursework. He doesn't do his class and home work assignments.
It could also be that he is bored and not interested in what he/she is learning in school. He/she may not see the relevance to real world application of what is being taught in school.
If boredom seems to be an issue, the student or the parent should check in with the teacher to see what options are available to make the course/subject more exciting and interesting for the kid.
2. Test Anxiety
Many smart kids struggle with test and performance anxiety, so their scores on standardized tests often do not reflect their true abilities or knowledge. They are timid or anxious during examination.
To help them stay calm and confident right before and during the test, they must perform relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, relaxing their muscles one at a time, or closing their eyes and imagining a positive outcome. They should prepare well for the examination, get a good night's sleep, eat and drink before the examination. The brain needs fuel to function.
They must not pay attention to what other people are doing. Thy must stay on pace by scoping out the whole test before getting started, analyzing which questions they can answer best and mentally allocating how much time to spend on each section. If there’s time to recheck, even better.
3. Slow processing speed
Even if the student is highly intelligent, he/she may have a slower processing speed, meaning that it takes him/her longer to answer questions and grasp concepts. Many standardized tests in reading and math are timed, so speed matters. If that's the case, the student must practice answering more questions before the examination. The student can use the Kuulchat examination practice and time himself while answering the questions. They student can complete most of the examination tasks when fully prepared.
4. Overscheduled
They be earning poor grades because they don’t have time to complete their assignments. Many students take multiple advanced classes and join a number of extracurricular activities, leaving very little time for homework. They may also be loaded at home with house chores so might not have time to study and prepare for examinations.
