Antwiwaa bought 25 mangoes, 7 of which were unripe. What percentage of the mangoes were ripe?
Show Solution
Total mangoes = 25
Unripe mangoes = 7
Ripe mangoes = 25 - 7 = 18
Percentage is calculated by the formula below:
Substiting the number of ripe mangoes and the total mangoes into the percentage formula
Cancel the ones which can cancel out
Percentage of ripe mangoes = 18 x 4 = 72
Hence 72% of the mangoes are ripe
ALTERNATIVELY
You can as well calculate the percentage of the unripe mangoes and subtract it from 100% to get the percentage of the ripe mangoes
Total mangoes = 25
Unripe mangoes = 7
Substiting the number of unripe mangoes and the total mangoes into the percentage formula
Cancel the ones which can cancel out
Percentage of unripe mangoes = 7 x 4 = 28%
Percentage of ripe mangoes = 100% - 28% = 72%
