They are called micronutrients because they are needed in smaller quantities and not because they are less important.

The primary macronutrients are Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K).

Cultural practices in crop production refer to routine activities carried out directly in the field to care for crops, manage their growth, and optimize soil conditions from planting to harvest.

Raising seedlings in a nursery (nursing) is a pre-planting operation, not a field maintenance or routine cultural practice. It takes place in a specialized, controlled environment before the crops are permanently established in the main production field.

Pest control: This is a direct field maintenance practice performed to protect growing crops from insect damage and disease.

Weeding: This is a standard cultural practice aimed at removing competing plants to ensure the main crop gets enough nutrients, water, and sunlight.

Mulching: This is a field soil-management practice used to retain soil moisture, regulate temperature, and suppress weed growth around the growing crops.

Conserving soil water means using agricultural practices that reduce water loss from evaporation, minimize run-off, or limit excessive plant transpiration.

I. Adequate spacing: Giving crops the correct space ensures that plant roots do not over-crowd and aggressively compete for limited soil moisture. It prevents rapid depletion of underground water reservoirs.

II. Disease control: Controlling crop diseases protects the structural health, quality, and final yield of the plant. However, treating a plant for fungal or bacterial infections does not directly function to trap, conserve, or store moisture inside the soil field.

III. Cover cropping: Planting low-growing crops (like legumes or sweet potatoes) to entirely carpet the bare ground blocks direct sunlight from hitting the soil surface. This dramatically reduces evaporation, traps moisture underneath, and cools down the soil temperature.
